Following on from the sell-out successes of the last five years, with Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe, The Mikado, The Sorcerer and HMS Pinafore, GASP! are delighted to bring you HMS Ruddigore, one of Gilbert and Sullivan's darker comic operas.
Ruddigore follows Robin Oakapple, a shy farmer who is secretly Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, the rightful heir to a cursed baronetcy whose holders must commit a crime every day or perish. As Robin tries to woo the virtuous Rose Maybud, his wicked brother Sir Despard—who has been carrying the curse in Robin’s stead—reveals Robin’s true identity, forcing him to take up the title and its supernatural obligations. Haunted by the ghosts of his ancestors, Robin searches for a loophole to escape the curse, ultimately discovering that the baronets need only commit a crime if the act is truly villainous, allowing him to break the spell, reunite with Rose, and restore order to the village.
It's another great mix of humour and fantastic musical entertainment, with some added spookiness, delivered to you by the group who won the IW Theatre's 'Best Music and Singing' Award 2025 for The Mikado - and you can't get better than that!
